Welcome to my new blog!

I have hang-ups about writing blogs. Love writing, love blogging, but my expectations and what I think other people's expectations are get in the way a bit and cause MAJOR writer's block. So until I get that whole area straightened out in my noggin, I'm just going to keep it simple. How about some pictures of my beautiful Sunny?

Sunny loves cleaning.

She holds the dustpan when we sweep (the whole house...every morning...it has only rained twice in the last 2 months and I just cannot keep up with the red dust). So we sweep. And mop. And sweep. Again. She also carries around a wet rag and scrubs the floor, table, toys and her belly. She loves taking her cloth diapers to the bin, and the disposable diapers to the garbage. If she gets a hold of the wipes she washes the floor with them. Or her legs. And the only way to get dishes done during the day is to have her help me. (as I figure I can do better things during nap-time!). So she stands in front of the sink on a chair while I do contortions to reach the dishes and wash them. She is still learning not to pour water on the floor, however.

She loves reading.













Especially books with animals. Her primary word is "um" - a high pitched mimic of a cat sound. Sometimes it feels like we have two cats. She talks out loud as she looks at the books. Any moms of tots out there used Sonlight's preschool book set? Looks cool. Just wondering about the future.

Loves mangoes. Usually. This one was quite tart.

These were taken while we were staying with friends outside the city during the recent presidential elections. Elections were quiet and calm, (a praise after the violent 2006 elections!) but things did heat up a little 2 days after we got back. During the mayoral elections cops discovered boxes with thousands of pre-ticked ballots just hours before polling stations were open. Clashes and accusations ensued between supporters of the two main candidates. Military and riot police everywhere. Mayoral elections canceled and will be rescheduled. My neighborhood was quiet, though, yaay! No word on when the new elections will be. But all that to say, Soleil loves pizza. :-) And we enjoyed our few days away on the shores of Lake Victoria.

We don't swim in Lake Victoria because of the many unwanted parasites in the lake. So, there is a nearby pool at the Sailing Club (where our missionary friend repairs the boats for AIM's island ministries) so we enjoyed a swim on a hot day! Sunny didn't know what to do in the water, but liked playing just on the pool's edge (pictured above) and being dipped in.
